How this works

Two directions, one formula

Net to gross

Start with the price before tax, multiply by the rate to get the VAT amount, add it back to get what the customer actually pays.

Gross to net

Start with a VAT-inclusive price and work backward. This is the one people get wrong, dividing by (1 + rate), not just subtracting the rate from the total.

This covers standard rates only. Plenty of countries run reduced rates for specific categories, food, books, and children's clothing are common examples, and standard rates themselves do change from time to time. Worth checking the current rate for your actual situation rather than trusting any preset list, including this one.

One invoice at a time is manageable

Getting VAT right across every vendor invoice you process is a different problem. That's what Clearline actually handles.
